Saturday 5 January 2019 was a perfect day for fishing from a boat…..….or off the wharf……Registration desk – with the three historic Whakapirau Cruising Club trophies on display. Winners in each category received a trophy, certificate, chocolates and a Coastguard raffle ticketThe fish were certainly jumping (one boat caught 35 snapper)…..but the weigh-in showed there weren’t many big specimens around…The spectators enjoyed a relaxing wait for the announcement of the winners….The winner of the Men’s Challenge was Luke Chappell, Oxford Street with a 1.93kg kahawai . Well done, Luke!Huiping Li, The Strand took out the Ladies Challenge with a 1.12kg Snapper. Excellent result, Huiping! The Children’s Challenge was won by Brody Hume, Rigby Street with a 0.87g snapper. Congratulations, Brody!
